Skin-care Products or Toxic Avengers?

Skin_Care.jpgWe focus a lot in our society on what we put in our bodies. In this age of fast-food conveniences, some group or another is always launching a campaign to eat whole food and avoid the high-fat, high-sugar diets to which we've become accustomed. And that's a good thing because-even if slowly-people are starting to pay attention to what they're eating and making healthy choices. But too few people are really aware what they're putting ON their bodies. What you wear is just as important as what you eat.

You've probably heard some of the talk about parabens, the chemicals used to extend the shelf life of many of the products you'll find in the health and beauty aisles. But did you know that parabens have been labeled as carcinogens? In case you're unfamiliar, a carcinogen is a substance capable of causing cancer in living tissue. Do you want those on your body?

Did you know that mineral oil, a major ingredient in many cosmetics and personal care products, is derived from the same source as the oil and gas we use to power our vehicles? Mineral oil repels water and "moisturizes" skin because it creates an impenetrable barrier that doesn't allow air to get into your pores. Unfortunately, your skin needs air to live, so what effect is it having on your body to wear an invisible layer over it day and night?

Even sunscreen, which we all rely on in the burning Phoenix sun, can sometimes have harmful ingredients. So how do you know which products are good for your body and which can expose you to dangerous ingredients?
